The Journal & Courier in Lafayette, Indiana seeks a general assignment reporter whose work will have an emphasis on business news and developments in our community. The right person must be versatile enough to cover topics outside of business, too, including filling in for crime and courts coverage when that reporter is on vacation. Applicants must be comfortable in a university setting as Purdue University drives a great deal of J&Cís coverage.
Reporters at J&C are expected to develop their own story ideas, be creative as well as willing to tell stories in the best digital ways to drive traffic and engagement, and this position is no different. The best personality for this role is one of great curiosity and outgoingness that cultivates sources and ideas.
Professional reporting experience is preferred. A base of photography knowledge is helpful as the reported will, at times, shoot his/her own photographs. Likewise, applicants who are comfortable producing short but useful videos are preferred.
