Job Description:

Duties: The Director of Coverage is responsible for overseeing the daily national news coverage that is produced out the of the DC bureau. The DoC team plans the day, works with our beat leaders to make sure that we bring the editorially significant events to air and digital plus handle live coverage and reporters. This includes coordination with bureaus and field personnel to make sure that events and pieces are produced across all the CNN platforms. Also, the DoC makes sure that the production team is coordinated to from planning to delivery on air or the web.Key Responsibilities:- The DoC provides editorial guidance to the DC Bureau by setting priorities for news coverage and allocating the necessary resources to efficiently gather and produce the news. - DoC provides the network with guidance on late developing stories, providing editorial and logistical assistance to shows and other CNN entities in coverage of the news. Responsible for coordinating daily national news coverage.- Oversees the DC Bureau assignment editors and general assignment producers, in coordinating with the national news coverage. Works on development of a team from the entry level News Associate program through the Senior assignment team.- Provides front-line editorial guidance to the show Eps. Works with the beat leaders to make sure that news is distributed internally and pushed towards our digital platforms. Also, handles communication with show EP's about coverage planning or adjustments to that plan- Outlines the framework for the presentation of news in its initial phases by concentrating on making sure each news piece is being approached with balance, good story telling elements, and structure.- Works in coordination with other members of the Bureau, under the guidance of the VP News, in coordinating editorial consistency from day to day and for special coverage. - Oversight of the scheduling, production schedule for the newsgathering team.- Strategic planning for long-term projects and special events.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements- 8 years of working in a newsroom.- 8+ yrs. experience as a manager of staff- Highly developed editorial sense- Package production and show team experience Desired requirements:- Field Experience- Package Production Experience- Assignment desk experienceTurner Broadcasting System, Inc. and its subsidiaries are Equal Opportunity Employers and E-Verify users.
