The Commercial Appeal, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a reporter to cover the growing Memphis suburbs of Collierville, Lakeland and Arlington. This reporter would also do some spot breaking news and would be expected to do enterprise stories from the suburbs as well as contribute to breaking news projects.
This reporter should have the dexterity to both cover the news and handle social media promotion about the work. It is as important to visit Starbucks and the Friday Night football game as it is to attend town meetings or zoning boards.
We expect reporters to mine their beats for trend and enterprise stories and to look for ways to write about interesting people in the suburbs.
Strong analytical skills are helpful. Data reporting skills are also a plus. It is a requirement that the reporter be curious about how life in the suburbs is lived and bring those stories to readers on our website and in print weekly.
The job will also involve working a weekend day.
If you want to come to a fast-moving, interesting news town and join a dynamic Commercial Appeal newsroom within The USA TODAY NETWORK, this could be the right opportunity for you.
Experience writing for an online/digital news website, newspaper or magazine
Excellent communication and time management skills; ability to deliver on deadline
