Handles all aspects of the storyboard and timing processes. Manages a team of storyboard artists, revisionists, and animatic editors to ensure alignment of the style, vision and creative ambitions required for the boards within each episode and throughout the series.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Across all aspects of the storyboard process, ensure that the scope of work creatively aligns with the style and ambitions for each episode.
Responsible for reading the script and collaborating with the Supervising Producer to discuss creative ambitions for each episode. Ensure alignment before distributing storyboard handouts.
Provide detailed notes on scene setups to ensure the aim for each sequence is established clearly in the thumbnails and later versions of the storyboard.
Work closely with each member of the storyboard team to discuss assignments. Be available for questions and to monitor progress. Discuss timelines and deliverables on a regular basis and ensure quality and continuity of submissions across the team.
Provide status updates, discuss concerns, and review potential changes with appropriate production staff on a regular basis.
Work with story artists to fine tune or punch up storyboard and/or animatics as needed.
Participate in all storyboard pitches including pitching the boards when necessary. Provide notes and ensure clarity as questions arise. Ensure notes are disseminated appropriately.
Weigh in on animatics at all stages including animatic pitches. Ensure style and vision for the show is maintained consistently. Oversee revisions and provide notes ongoing.
Work with team to ensure show management guidelines including naming conventions are followed.
Evaluate the continuity and quality of all storyboards and ensure it is maintained across the team. Provide feedback to artists to ensure characters stay on model, that the reuse library is appropriately leveraged and that the accuracy of revisions is seen through to completion of task before sending the storyboards to the animatics department.
Will participate in the interviewing process as well as review portfolios and tests. Responsible for helping in recruitment process of both in house and freelance storyboard artists.
Must have storyboard directing and drawing experience.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment is essential.
2-3 years experience as a storyboard director and at least 5 years work as a television animation storyboard artist or equivalent combination of education and experience.
BA/BS in Fine Arts preferred.
Ability to quickly align with style of show.
Strong background in staging, composition.
Able to come up to speed quickly on hardware and software including knowledge of the Cintiq tablet, Photoshop, Painter or Sketchbook Pro.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines and keep team on schedule.
DreamWorks Animation Television is seeking a Pre-school Development Executive who will be focused on pre-school series. The ideal candidate has successfully developed pre-school series in the past, has a strong network of artists and writers, understands the issues that arise in development and production of animated series, and wants to closely work with writers and artists to develop original series.
Collaborates with key creatives (EPs, Writers, Artists) on development projects
o Identifies and cultivates fresh ideas
o Takes initiative and can work with creative teams to move projects forward
o Interprets and translates notes from creative discussions and ensure timely distribution to Executives and Talent
o Provides notes and creative input on scripts and reading materials with a strong knowledge of story structure and character development
o Gives clear and supportive feedback to creative teams
Builds rapport and maintains relationships with management companies and talent agencies in an effort to find new writers, artists and directors
Sources possible materials, books, stories and scripts for consideration in future television projects
Independently identifies potential talent (i.e. Directors, Animators) and provides initial list to Executives
Fosters close working relationships with creative teams
Actively part of creative and development process to generate pre-school series bibles, scripts and character designs as well as pitch documents
Collaborates with other Development Executives on projects and works well in a team setting to support and improve all projects in development
Manage budget and deals associated with development
Ensures that the department resources (i.e. drafts, notes, research materials) are maintained in an orderly and accessible manner
Manages the department coordinators, assistants and interns as they work on assigned projects
Provides direction to the administrative staff and ensures that work has been distributed efficiently
At least 5 years experience as a Development Executive preferred
Excellent people management skills

In depth knowledge of animation production and studio community critical
Experience at a TV network or content platform highly preferable
