The National Geographic Partners Digital Product group is seeking a to lead development teams building NatGeo’s consumer web sites including nationalgeographic.com and yourshot.nationalgeographic.com. In this role you will partner with Platform and Product leaders to drive the strategic and technical direction of our consumer web properties.

To further that mission you’ll be responsible for driving the day-to-day execution of engineering teams building our NatGeo hero site. With advanced technology we can present these stories in innovative and new ways. As part of this technical strategy you’ll collaborate with our product and editorial leaders to imagine new approaches to storytelling.
We also believe in the power of community to explore these topics. Our photography community, Your Shot, allows photographers around the world to showcase their work and engage with NatGeo photography editors for storytelling and feedback. We’re exploring new ways to empower this community to share their experiences and you will be able to engage virtually from day one on this ambitious expansion of this product.
• Oversee day to day operations of technology teams through technical leads and managers.
•Develop and implement technology strategy for consumer web properties.
•Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships across technology, product, and business
•leadership to continuously refine technology roadmap and approaches.
•Minimum 7 years experience developing large multi-tier web sites or web applications
•Minimum 3 years experience leading engineering teams
•Experience integrating technologies with custom development to meet product requirements.
•Experience with API-based architectures.
•Experience with cloud architectures and services, preferably AWS and services such as SQS, SNS, RDS, and Lambda.
•Experience with web caching and CDNs such as Varnish, Squid, Akamai, or CloudFront.
•Experience with dependency management and build and deployment tools (Jenkins/Bamboo, Puppet, Docker, Maven).
•Experience and passion building large scale web properties, preferably in the entertainment or media spaces.
•Demonstrated ability and experience leading technical teams and performing technical project management.
•Ability to lead technical conversations with Product, Business and Ads leadership, in addition to Engineering and Support/Operations teams.
•Conveys highly technical concepts and information in written form to technical and non-technical audiences.
•Ability to negotiate with multiple stakeholders to build consensus on solutions and technology approaches.
•Ability to build and maintain a culture of engineering excellence with both full-time and contract staff.
•Experience evaluating and managing vendors, agencies, and contracting partners.
•Desire and passion to drive innovation across the engineering organization to meet new business needs.
