Job Description:


As a Crew Chief in the Construction department, you will be responsible for producing BOM/PARs for new projects, coordinate projects through all phases of construction, including activation and release, as well as technical familiarity with POC system plant components and performing tasks related to the wiring of interior and exterior home installations and apartment/building installations, including ensuring the appropriate connections of all cables, boxes and wiring. In this role, you will perform tasks relating to the routing and rerouting of the plant as it pertains to multiple dwelling units, building attachments, underground construction including permitting, repair WiFi 2.4 / 5 gig radio and cable modem connectivity and performance issues, troubleshoot channel interference, signal to noise and system noise problems using AirMagnet Spectrum Analyzer and/or Wi-spy analyzer tools, conduct wireless site surveys to insure optimal performance, provide ongoing wireless network troubleshooting and support and final installation and quality check of WiFi units. The Crew Chief is also responsible for repairing or replacing cables and equipment pertaining to multiple dwelling units, building attachments and underground constriction projects, assist with public relations with customers, city, county and state officials and utility companies, ensure that all construction procedures have been completed before contactor is relieved of it’s obligations – QC and invoice verifications, monitor and account for material usage on construction projects and provide completed construction maps to the design department, advanced technician or Supervisor for review. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to; Performs surveys, permitting and placement of system power supplies associated with the turn on of new plant construction, perform tasks associated with splicing of active & passive components of a hybrid fiber coax network using appropriate PAC equipment and tools, completes any and all paperwork, completes submission and follow-up on all 3rd party damage claims and ensures crew compliance with vehicle and on site safety measures in relationship to the Cablevision safety manual, OSHA, National Electrical Safety Code and Building Officials Code Administration.


•Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities as described in the Construction Technician, Construction Technician II and Senior Construction Technician position descriptions
•High School Diploma or Equivalent
•Valid states driver’s license with the state of employment and CDL where applicable
•Minimum 2 years experience as a Sr. Construction Technician
•Good written and oral communication skills
•Knowledge of all MDU, aerial, underground and BA construction materials and equipment, related hand tools, including technical familiarity with CATV system plant components and home wiring, aerial and underground construction procedures and specifications, and grounding and bonding specifications as necessary
•Knowledge of the complete usage of underground locating equipment (UG Locator, TDR, Line Toner), basic test equipment (RF Meter, Volt/OHM meter), basic design calculations and contractor specifications and billing procedures
•Knowledge of complete safety precautions, light computer skills and crew chief skills
•Ability to carry and climb a 28 ft extension ladder
•Willingness to climb poles
•Ability to read maps (Road and Systems)
•Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and to work in all weather conditions
•Willingness to work standby and overtime as needed including emergency storm duties
•Knowledge of the following POC products but not limited to; Scientific Atlanta, Motorola/GI, ADC Nodes, transmit and receive equipment, Phillip Nodes, Lectro (3,6 and 8 battery units), Alpha, AM Status Monitoring, Cheetah Status •Monitoring, Antronix, SA and Motorola/GI Taps, Power Inserters, Directional Couplers and Line Equalizers, PPC fittings all sizes from RG59 to 1125 QR, Trilogy MC2, CommScope P1, 2 & 3 and misc other cables
•Knowledge to operate all tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner, including; Field Strength Meters, •Volt/Ohm Meter, UG Cable Locator, Generator/pump, TDR, Manhole Blower and air test meter, CaLan 3010R meter, •Arnco Tension Master Controller, and Drop wire tone generator/locator
