Job Description:

Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor programming for the American Sportsman, is seeking a Director of Programming. This position is responsible for programming/production activities and personnel ensuring efficient operations and high level of excellence within the department.



Duties and Responsibilities :

Manage programming staff on day-to-day basis.



Oversee programming schedule for linear network and VOD. Maintain master schedule documents and bonus schedule, making sure content is scheduled per contracts and to maximize ratings. Communicate schedules and changes to all departments.



Programming stunt management, scheduling of programs/episodes for stunts.



Manage delivery of content for all platforms: linear, VOD, Digital. Content calendar creation and maintenance.



Aid in overseeing programming traffic (shared responsibility with VP of Business Development).



Develop and maintain production and technical requirements and guidelines (working with operations).



Manage Video on Demand content strategy.



In conjunction with VP Business Development and EVP Programming and Production act as development and production liaison for network original series in production.



Manage the grid of potential original series concepts/pitches.



Be central point of contact for all internal departments for dissemination of production calendars, production status and series information for all programming.



Maintain potential acquisitions grid.



Consult with independent producers about improving programs.



Member of the international distribution team, maintain international catalogue, assist in negotiating distribution deals and oversee delivery of licensed titles.



Manage network correspondence with independent producers.



Work with Operations Department on quality control issues.



Member of the Sportsman Choice Awards committee, selection of awards, nomination of finalists, and external communication to independent producers about awards.



Perform all other duties that may be assigned to meet business needs.



Ideal Candidate Requirements/Attributes :

Associate or Bachelor?s degree required.



Minimum of 5 years programming experience (scheduling and development experience a plus)



Knowledge of the broadcast/cable industry and audience measurement systems (e.g. Nielsen).



Demonstrated track record of excellent leadership skills with ability to manage, motivate & inspire a team.



Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and work effectively performing a variety of deadline-driven projects in a face-paced environment with minimal supervision.



Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



High level of attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.



Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with internal and external contacts.



Enthusiasm for the hunting, shooting and / or fishing lifestyle is a plus.
