Job Description:

Role Purpose

The Director, Content Distribution is a key leadership position in the effort to build distribution value of the NBCUniversal (NBCU) portfolio of network assets. This individual will own the day-to-day interactions with their assigned MVPD clients, serve as source expert in their client’s business, lead/support the distribution sales and account management efforts, and be a key member of the team negotiating agreements that generate value for NBCU and these clients.


Lead—or support when appropriate—all aspects of NBCU’s relationships with assigned top MVPDs, including responsibility for all day-to-day interactions and delivery on NBCU’s distribution and revenue goals.

Lead development and implementation of account plans for assigned top MVPDs that are targeted to deliver on designated client and NBCU goals. Track and report on status of account plan.

Cultivate and maintain key MVPD relationships at corporate and regional levels and across all relevant functional areas (e.g., Product, Marketing, Technology). Leverage these relationships and other information sources to understand and be conversant in all aspects of a client’s business, including: (i) pricing, packaging and other product strategies (e.g., offers, lineups); (ii) technology and new/advanced product strategies; (iii) competitive positioning/situation; (iv) financial performance; and (v) other corporate initiatives/interests.

Manage subordinate sales personnel in effort to meet NBCU’s account management, revenue and other goals. Identify, hire, and develop top talent. Set and manage to individual goals, and use annual and on-going review process to maximize individual productivity and performance.

Work with NBCU brands and peer expert groups within Content Distribution to develop solutions/value for MVPD clients and deliver on NBCU network and distribution goals. Specifically, among other activities, work with Marketing and Digital groups to build strategic marketing partnerships, launch TV Everywhere and any other joint new product initiatives, and drive consumer usage and awareness.

Serve as lead or secondary chair as appropriate in negotiations with assigned MVPDs. Develop renewal strategies, review and construct offers, and lead/support negotiations with MVPD accounts to secure optimal transactional outcomes for NBC.

Accountable for post-deal product roll-outs and operational issues. Monitor MVPD compliance with its contractual obligations and ensure—in coordination with Legal and any associated systems/procedures—NBCU compliance with its contractual commitments.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required

25% travel is required

Minimum 6 years media experience negotiating MVPD deals, preferably with multi-network portfolio organization [note: this should be customized to include top 10 experience if applicable to the position]

Experience negotiating Retransmission Consent and Regionals Sports Network distribution agreements

Solid understanding of telecommunications landscape and impact of FCC order is required

Keen understanding of deal economics

Strong industry relationships, both with MVPDs and Programmers

Previous people management required

Strong communicator, including experience delivering presentations

Aggressive self-starter who is exceptionally resourceful and a strong strategist

Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries with top level executives

Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills
