Job Description:

The Senior News Editor will lead the global GameSpot News team to provide day-to-day news coverage of the gaming industry. We need someone capable of serving a broad spectrum of readers with a wide variety of stories culled from press releases, legal documents, financial reports, rumors, retailer listings, message boards, conference panels, and personal sources.

As the Senior News Editor your team will be charged with making and breaking stories, as well as reporting on the latest happenings around the games industry. The GameSpot news team will balance written reporting with video news shows so video experience and passion is desirable

Beyond covering the daily news cycle, the editor will have the opportunity to meet and interview developers and executives throughout the game industry, as well as cover some of the biggest events in the gaming world, including the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Any hire would also be expected to participate in a variety of GameSpot extra-curriculars.

We're looking for a talented writer with a strong work ethic, a team-first mentality, and a drive to raise the standard of gaming journalism. Strong writing and reporting skills are essential. Two years of related experience preferred.

The Senior Editor will be a strong leader with a clear vision on how to drive engagement and traffic to our news stories and inspiring our news team to be the best in video games media.

A thorough knowledge of and appreciation for video games, previous journalism education/experience, and a college degree are all desired qualities. We also rely largely on peer-editing, so an ability to accept and give constructive criticism is expected.

Required Qualifications

•5 years + experience in games journalism
•Established track record of presenting video, news and features content on videogames
•Experience with video production/distribution
•High standards of editorial excellence, and a proven ability to lead a team that can deliver it
•Leader with history of success working across organizational boundaries
•Extensive contacts in games industry
•On-camera and/or video programming experience
•Experienced team leader
•Passion for videogames
•Recognized expert in gaming media
•Substantial network of writers and editors
