Job Description:

The Studios Production Apprentice is a 2 year apprentice program for an entry level production position that works closely with the Director of Studio Production and the senior studio production crew to learn/train to be a generalist in various studio production positions in the television studio, such as: Camera Operator, Teleprompter Operator, A2 - Audio Assistant, Stage/Floor Manager, Lighting Assistant, etc.

The Daily

• Set up and strike cameras per direction from the Show Director (or Technical Director or Tech Mgr.)

• Studio Camera Operator, work with the show Director and Technical Director to achieve the desired/pleasing picture framing, camera movement, lens zoom in/out, maintain crisp lens focus.

• As appropriate, offer a variety of different types of shots to the Director.

• Able to operate a studio pedestal camera and handheld camera.

• Work closely with the Technical Director and Video Engineer/Camera Shader to fax the cameras with the Production Control Room.

• Teleprompter operation: edit and display show script on camera teleprompters for on-camera talent to read.

• Scroll script forward/back as talent reads the script.

• Make script changes as directed by talent and/or show Producer and Director


• Basic skills of studio lighting, basic operation of studio lighting console, able to use a man lift, hang/focus studio lights, basic power distribution, able to replace lamps to lighting instruments as needed.

• As Stage Manager, lead the Studio Crew, be the eyes and ears of the Director in the studio, relay information from the Production Control Room to the Studio Crew, coordinate set/scenic changes, cue the talent when they are on/off camera, when to start/stop their performance, which camera the talent should address, make sure the floor video monitors are at the correct/best viewing angle for the talent and have the correct video feeds.

• As the A2 (audio Assistant), basic skills with the operation of wireless mics and IFB for the talent, able to put them on/off the talent (male and female), keep fresh batteries in the units before each show, as well as coordinate with the A1 (lead Audio Mixer in the PRR) to fax the mics/IFBs and trouble shoot any issues.

The Essentials

• High School diploma, 2-4 year college degree is preferred, with an emphasis on television/media production
• Experience in studio and/or remote video production in the role of camera operator for multi-camera television shows.
• Able to work in a team environment, with a positive professional attitude.
