Job Description:

Video photographer and technician for Nexstar's Washington, DC, Bureau. Position is full time and temporary--from approx May 24 to approx Aug 15, 2019.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides video, editing and technical support for Washington Bureau Reporter/MMJs
• Participates in editorial discussions and pitches story ideas
• Works closely with Bureau Chief, Executive Producer, and Bureau Reporter/MMJs to develop video for frequently video-poor stories
• Sets up, composes, and executes video shots for recorded packages and live reports
• Produces and operates R/C studio camera, lights, and telephone IFB for studio live reports and taped interviews
• Produces and operates TVU backpack, field lights, and telephone IFB for live reports in the field
• Helps maintain PC laptop editing computers and computer networks
• Maintains digital video newsgathering equipment, including camera, microphones, cabling, lights, batteries, power supplies, backpack video transmitters, and accessories
• Edits video/audio clips on Adobe Premiere and Avid Newscutter for television broadcasts, digital platforms, and social media
• Works with Bureau Chief to discover and employ emerging technolgy
• Some shift work and overtime required
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

• Bachelors Degree
• Fluency in English. Functional Spanish helpful
• Knowledge of and enthusiasm for Washington, DC, news
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to be personable and a team player in a relatively small office
• Ability to act with decorum around VIPs while shooting a story on deadline
• Ability to work in highly restricted, structured shooting environments like the White House and Capitol Hill
• Minimum three years’ experience shooting and editing TV and/or Digital Video journalism
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Avid Newscutter
• Knowledge of computers, computer networks, digital video/audio, and digital transmission equipement like TVU or LiveU
• Understanding of cameras, lenses, lighting, wired and wireless microphones, and HD SDI video equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and ask for help when needed
• Flexibility to work any shift

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The News Photographer must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the News Photographer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
