Broadcast Transport Services - Operations Group is a mission critical group within Broadcast Transport Services (BTS) whose responsibilities are to monitor and Quality Check and troubleshoot as necessary all networks before and after transmission.
Responsibilities of job responsibilities include a variety of duties including the following: Monitoring of ALL (80) linear programming feeds for the company; Monitoring non-linear streams for TV Everywhere authenticated VOD services on Turner’s websites; Coordinates feeds with CNN Satellites and Circuits in the acquisition and troubleshooting of incoming satellite feeds for live news events; Collaborates with Turner Entertainment on live events coverage; Provides overall coordination between Video origination and Video Distribution to ensure continuity and quality of the broadcast services; Troubleshoot as necessary and document all signal and service anomalies; Acts as the first point of contact for all Transport and Teleport Engineering groups and fiber delivered networks to operators such as DirectTV, AT&T and Comcast; Also act as central point of contact for the International distribution group; Acts as the overnight help desk for Turner Network Sales, fielding troubles and questions from video operators such as Comcast and Verizon FIOS; Provides point of central initiation for all DR/BCP recovery plans related to broadcast transmission; This includes highly customized “Live Events” plans as well as restoral of service through DR at HBO’s uplink facility in NY; Monitor and alert Teleport Engineering of impending severe weather which might cause service disruptions, allowing the teams to get ready, transition services, or move to generator power; All engineers must have their own transportation; There are generally opportunities for overtime.
An applicant should have at least an associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcasting, or equivalent experience, and should have at least 3 years live traffic experience in a control room/ Master Control environment in the Satellite and/ or Broadcast industries. Candidate must be familiar with RF, Satellite theory, and transmission practices, TV Broadcast and Satellite Earth Station infrastructure, satellite and multiple digital SD and HD video formats and compression schemes from multiple manufacturers, as well as ABR streaming digital video formats. Additionally, working knowledge of test and measurement equipment for the aforementioned formats is necessary, including spectrum analyzers, digital stream analyzers, and video and audio measurement instrumentation. Applicant must be able to work well under the pressure of time constraints and deadlines. Good organizational and recordkeeping skills are a must, as are good interpersonal and communication skills, and a professional attitude must be maintained at all times. Engineers are responsible for timely and accurate completion of all administrative requirements and record keeping as well as demonstrating responsible behavior regarding use of company equipment and facilities.
