specialists partner with the newsroom, audience, sales and marketing groups to
plan and execute daily digital coverage and long-term digital campaigns. This
includes news and event coverage, as well as specific initiatives designed to
generate revenue or support Sales initiatives. Digital audience specialists are
accountable for the execution of all plans, daily and long term, and must
"think digital first" at all times. On a daily basis, the specialist
confers with his or her supervisor, with topic editors (such as breaking news
editor, sports editor, etc.) to scope daily coverage; on a regular basis, the
specialist confers with his or her supervisor and with representatives from
audience, sales or marketing to define and plan initiatives. The specialist
then works with producers assigned to those topics to ensure the coverage is
appropriately produced on our various digital platforms/products, including
wired sites, mobile sites and tablets, and through newsletters, SMS, social
media and multimedia. The specialist also performs production duties on a
regular basis. Specialists adapt to changing business needs and rely on metrics
and user data to inform decisions about products to create and promote. They
must be proactive and display a strong sense of urgency, energy and creativity.
The audience specialist has a deep understanding of our business goals from
both journalism and revenue standpoints.
Planning and coordinating digital coverage and content. (50%)
This will involve regular meetings with site production managers, topic
editors and producers.
Meetings will be daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly.
--Meet each morning with editor and site manager, other audience
specialists and then producers to outline goals/priorities for the day.
--Meet each week with editor to plan upcoming coverage ... packages,
events, stories, etc.
Document plans for sharing. Maintain coverage calendar for the topic
area the audience specialist is assigned to.
--Meet on regular basis (to be determined) with site manager, other
audience specialists and with Audience department to plan and implement
Duty:Digital production work. (40%) Tasks:
--Perform production duties as part of regular schedule. Updating
channels, curating content, creating packages for wired web, mobile, tablets.
Duty:Analyzing effectiveness of Content. (10%) Tasks:
--Pull metrics reports, hold post-mortems. Compile post-mortem reports
and deliver to site manager, digital team leader other senior leaders.
--Make recommendations for execution of future products.
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of three years in digital content generation or production. 2-4 years of experience required - Internships or other professional experience may be considered.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, including peers and those in different work groups.
Ability to both plan and help execute news or event coverage. Results-oriented approach to work, with proven track record
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
