Job Description:

The Business Director is a key member of the WBITVP Sweden senior management team and will have overall responsibility for all finance and business matters within the company. The position will be integral to ensuring the successful management and group reporting for the operations of the Sweden TV production business, optimizing margins and profitability.

Essential Job Functions

• Prepare financial forecasts ensuring that budgets are met and commercial activities are optimized
• Contribute financial, organizational and commercial expertise to management decision making and lead the process for growing and optimizing margins
• As a member of the senior management team, provide strategic input to the organization and with the MD, lead process for preparing annual business planning process
• Set financial goals including margin targets for Head of Production
• Ensure productions are executed in a manner consistent with budgets and core strategies, provide an independent challenge to the production teams on the management of production spend
• In conjunction with Head of Productions, model, support and ensure appropriate controls exist for negotiations with clients/partners on all media funding, other finance, tax credit, contractual matters and other business and commercial affairs issues
• Liaise with WB Legal (and external counsel) on production legal matters including risks associated with specific productions, press and IP law, format licensing, distribution and option agreements
• Hold monthly calls with WB production Legal to discuss relevant production, employment and other litigation or risks, and ensuring that an appropriate compliance framework exists in the business
• As required, act as Company Director for Swedish legal entities, and provide financial support to other Board members
• Have budgetary oversight for Finance, IT, HR, Post-production and Facilities departments (incl. real estate), and allocations into production budgets
• Responsible for ensuring adequate processes and controls exist for operational and production systems and that the business operates in accordance with WBITVP divisional and WB Group policies
• Approve and sign off invoices and investment proposals
• Oversee HR reporting and work directly with WB Local HR management to ensure company follows appropriate policy on all payroll and employment matters as well as ensuring staffing models and overhead costs remain flexible. Ensure that headcount is closely monitored and that the Company is able to respond in a timely manner which reflects the size of the commissioned production slate
• Work closely with the Managing Director, advising on all significant strategic and commercial decisions and ensuring that the company remains aligned to overall business objectives, including the management of cost base, discretionary spend and overheads
• Work with the Managing Director and Head of Production in the negotiation and contracting of key talent and third-party suppliers. Ensure that any production accounting liabilities and contingencies are communicated and where relevant, recorded in the financial statements
• Ensure that all departments (especially Production and Finance) are fully aligned and communicating effectively in order to optimize the financial performance of the business overall

Person specification

• Considerable experience in TV production industry is essential
• Experience of having worked in a multinational organization with ability to manage teams through change and lead the local business process initiatives would be an advantage
• Strong financial competency required and will have presented strategic, financial and commercial information to senior executives
• Good understanding of the TV market is essential, including programme making, the production process, finance models and deal making
• Proven track record working successfully with senior business leaders, creative heads, operational and financial management
• Strategic thinking capability with good overall business skills, commercially aware and grounded but with the ability to be “hands-on” when required
• Able to lead and build a motivated team; an enthusiastic “builder”
• Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deal with the various internal and external stakeholders
• Adaptable operator with the ability to support, manage and direct commercial and business requirements
• Ability to solve problems/draw conclusions, exhibiting judgment and a good understanding of the key issues.
• Strong on execution and driving results in a collaborative manner
• Evidence of protecting and improving operating margins
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to interact effectively and influence management at all levels plus the ability to communicate complex information to relevant internal and external parties. Strong with the ability to push back with diplomacy
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to grasp the "big picture" and to think strategically. Rationale and pragmatic in thinking
• Strong organizational skills and ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must possess strong leadership skills and be proactive in driving and affecting change/transition
• Strong personal motivation, eager to drive results and resilient
• Ability to work in multiple stakeholder environment and collaborative approach to relationships with outsourcer providers
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects under time constraints. Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively and remain calm in high pressure environment
• Must be comfortable with both corporate and creative executives at senior management level and have the ability to translate business and financial matters in a clear and comprehensive manner to non-finance people
• Proven negotiation skills and the ability to influence others
• Undergraduate degree
• A finance or legal qualification preferred
