WFLD is seeking a General Assignment Reporter. The successful incumbent will gather and disseminate news. Communicate to the assignment desk the daily happenings in the field by covering day-to-day news stories through the use of strong writing and live reporting skills, performing as a fill-in anchor, and responding to breaking news. Responsible for gathering story information from various news sources and determining the worthiness of each story, idea, tip, etc. Strong knowledge of national and international events, as well as the ability to cover local stories. Keep news management and newscast producer apprised of all breaking news and changes in previous assignments. Communicate with field crews for updates on story assignments. Duties include writing, planning, reporting organized gathered information, performing in house research, and working well under pressure, social media savvy is necessary. Other duties as deemed appropriate and as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: 4 years television news experience, a degree in broadcast journalism and knowledge of city politics preferred. Anchoring experience required. Strong writing skills and an aggressive, innovative, resourceful, enterprising, and energetic approach is also required. Experience with newsroom computer a plus. Must be able to deal effectively with people and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Candidate must be able to work flexible hours; early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays may be required.
