Handles all aspects of the storyboarding and timing processes in the editing/animatics stage. Manages the entire team of directors, storyboard artists, revisionists, and editors to ensure alignment of the style, vision and creative ambitions required for a locked animatic of every episode and throughout the series.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Across all aspects of the storyboard and animatic process, ensure that the scope of work creatively aligns with the style and ambitions for each episode.
Collaborate with the Executive Producers to discuss creative ambitions for each episode. Ensure alignment before locking picture at the animatic stage.
Collaborate with the Art Director to discuss design needs for each episode.
Collaborate with Animation and Comp Supervisors to work within CG animation limitations and guidelines
Work closely with episodic directors and each member of the storyboard team to discuss assignments. Be available for questions and to monitor progress. Discuss timelines and deliverables on a regular basis and ensure quality and continuity of submissions across the team.
Provide status updates, discuss concerns, and review potential changes with appropriate production staff on a regular basis.
Work with story artists to fine tune or punch up storyboard and animatic as needed.
Participate in all storyboard handout and pitches. Provide notes and ensure clarity as questions arise. Ensure notes are disseminated appropriately.
Manage each shows animatic at all stages including animatic pitches, revisions and lock. Ensure style and vision for the show is maintained consistently by working closely with episodic directors and editors. Oversee revisions and provide notes ongoing.
Will participate in the interviewing process as well as review portfolios and tests. Responsible for helping in recruitment process of both in house and freelance storyboard artists.
Must have prior directing experience preferably with episodic CG animation.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
3-5 years experience as a director and at least 5 years work as a television animation storyboard artist or equivalent combination of education and experience.
BA/BS in Fine Arts preferred.
Ability to quickly align with style of show.
Strong background in staging, composition.
Strong sense of timing and pacing with regard to comedy and storytelling.
Able to come up to speed quickly on hardware and software including knowledge of the Cintiq tablet, Photoshop and Storyboard Pro. Knowledge of 3D software such as Maya a plus.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines and keep team on schedule.
