How On Demand is Changing Television Forever

When the DVR first burst on the scene no one fully envisioned the impact it would make on the TV revenue stream.

Television shows were no longer appointment based, you watched when you wanted, or delayed the start of your favorite program by 10 minutes, allowing you to fast-forward through all the mind-numbing commercials. No longer could TV networks charge top dollar for advertising rates when no one was actually seeing them!

Money and programming efforts shifted to live events – think sports, award and reality shows – programs that people at home wanted to enjoy live, commercials and all, with their second screen handy to engage on social media.

The DVR was and still is disruptive to the entire TV revenue model.
