Brian Clapp, Director of Content I have never worked in sales, which makes me and my career, a bit of an anomaly. In the majority of industries the most logical career entry path is through sales.

It makes sense if you think about it because sales jobs directly connect positive results with business revenue, it’s an easy metric for executives to quantify (i.e. if I hire this position I can see how it will make us money). Not all entertainment jobs show themselves this way.

The reason this is important is because if you want to work in the entertainment industry, 53% of the jobs we have listed on our site have the word sales in the job description or requirements.

While you may have stars in your eyes and spend your days envisioning a career in production, publicity, marketing or public relations – all the jobs with a billboard aura where you feel like you could be a star or at least close to it – sales careers are your most logical entry point into the entertainment industry.

Every business needs sales people, these are jobs that are super important. What most people don’t realize is that jobs in sales does not mean you spend your hours cold-calling angry random people during their dinner – what it generally means is building a relationship with those most likely to purchase your product.

Sales jobs are about relationship building. If you have the skill set to work in sales you will always find a job and be able to build up from within a business. Consider a career in sales, even if it’s not the glamorous first thing that comes to mind for your career path. Sales can be your entry point that allows you to build up your career in many other business avenues – or you may just find you love working in sales!
